As summer comes to an end, I have to say it has been a grand one for me! I have met so many wonderful people with team NiteLine and that much more outside of the team. Jon Jon an inspiring young but very talented upcoming artist is one person I have to admit is one to stay tuned for... His music is not only very carefully put together but also very unique. It gives me pleasure to share strong, unique and real talent with those who know real music when they hear it.

The following is a short bio in his own words of his journey in this entertainment life. We will be hearing a lot more of him as the fall brings in my new show “Da Lioness Lounge with DJ Parlay. The show will be based on Hip Hop and R & B, with interviews, new music, upcoming artist and so much more! Stay tuned, but here is a bit of Jon Jon….

Growing up a young boy in St Albans, Queens NY I was always taught by my family to read, and write my feelings down, I started writing poems and short stories to myself. Since the mid to late 90's I have been writing these stories of my thoughts and experiences.  I then began to challenge myself mentally, and put those feelings and experiences into songs, by using words eloquently to tell a story.

The message I bring to this game is one of hope, pain, joy, passion and never give up the fight, be diligent and vigorous to always come up on top.  My lyrics are full of passion, pain; confusion, humor and most of all education, the lyrics I bring are a vast experience of everyday life of all people.  I want to educate the youth as well as adults with my music, and hope to inspire them, as many in the industry have inspired me to perfect this craft every day. Some of those music influences are  2Pac**, LL Cool J, 50 Cent**,Biggie, Russell Simmons, P Diddy, Suge Knight**, Stevie Wonder**, and many more greats have influenced me in the determination to succeed in the game and the message they send through their music, and business savvy.

I truly believe that despite any hardship in life you can rise above it with faith, and self-determination, stay focused and always have a plan B to succeed.

I have performed at various local venues in the Queens area as well as other boroughs you can currently hear my tracks on LL Cool J's Boomdizzle.com, I am also on the Superstar Jay "I AM" Mix tapes volumes 34, 52.and 57.

NITELINERADIO'S OWN FEMALE DJ JEANNIE! PDF Print E-mail
Written by La Leona on Wednesday, 25 August 2010 09:35

With great pleasure, I would like to welcome the Newest DJ to Niteline Jeannie Hernandez. Nightline’s choice in bringing in a female DJ, demonstrates their innovated and professional method in conducting business in today’s society. I was very excited, therefore quickly rose to the opportunity on writing this month issue, on the first female DJ to join team Niteline!

Native of Puerto Rico, brought up in the Bronx, now residing in Florida; Jeannie is a mother, daughter, wife and friend. She is most grateful and proud of being a mother to a beautiful young woman, whom she stated is her pride and joy.  Her daughter is following the interest and learning the skill in becoming a DJ, also interested in studying broadcast and communications. Jeannie expressed how although she loves to DJ, she is a homely person avoiding clubs or too much of the nightlife. Given the opportunity, she would rather be at home enjoying time with her family, friends and pets. Her quest for happiness is shared by the way music inspires her soul, but her daughter and family are her ultimate inspiration.

As most of us here on Niteline, Jeannie keeps a busy schedule. Not only is she a DJ, but she is a nurse with a minor in Psychology along with her broadcasting skills.  The interest in becoming a DJ began when she was a teenager as a mascot for DSM, a Puerto Rican DJ Group. Her uncle, whom was a radio station personality, led her to becoming involved in an internship for this same station. That in turn led to activities such as promotion for the radio station and other functions throughout PR. She recalls the passion she felt by watching the DJ’s at those functions for the station, and while watching the Dj’s, she naturally acquired the skills.

The best advice she offers to the young women looking to get in the industry. “Be yourself and have fun, but always think of the reputation you are building up for yourself”. As Jeannie and I both see it, the entertainment industry is certainly a male dominated industry, while there is plenty of opportunity as anything else for females; we must remember we are ladies first.  The competition with in all industries is now open to females, and I believe myself, we have come a long way.

I take pride in being part of the September, the month in which Eve and I have labeled as “Woman Power” Month! We are introducing Jeannie as first female DJ, the Everything Eve show will be back on greater and stronger, and I myself will start a new show involved in Hip Hop/R&B, called “Da Lioness Lounge” with DJ Parlay & La Leona. The show is schedule to begin September 12, from 4 to 6pm, so log on and tell a friend. Stay tuned for more to come, Team Niteline has many great ventures coming this fall and winter season!

Part 2         ShOcK Chronicles

I was surrounded by smoke! I made my way through the darkness.  They say we must follow the light. I heard sounds in the distance. The record kept skipping and skipping like on an old phonograph.  The sounds were getting louder!!  I heard a phone ringing...I woke up! (lol).  I picked up and it was my good friend Roger Pauletta.  He informed me that Oscar Poche from A&R records was looking for a vocalist for a Roman Ricardo/Etienne Roch track.  I almost fell off the bed (lol).  I immediately said I was interested and went down for the audition.  A few days later I was doing pre-production! The demo landed in the hands of the late Bobby Ghossen and Cathy Jacobson, heads of Cardiac/Virgin records, who loved it. A few labels expressed interest including I believe Atlantic Records.  I signed with Cardiac and eventually changed management from my friend Eduardo Leon to Vito Bruno (AM PM Entertainment), the man who created and runs "Beatstock" for WKTU and started his career promoting 2001 Odyssey which was the club behind "Saturday Night Fever".  His roster was impressive with artist/groups such as Information Society, Noel, Crystal Waters, Lidell Townsell, 2 In A Room and many more.  As soon as I got the deal a person I had always looked up to gave me a call.  The legendary edit master "Chep Nunez" (R.I.P.).  He had called to congratulate me.  He would die tragically in a fire shortly after.  Like the Mighty Avengers our team was now assembled.  We had AM PM Entertainment on management, Pretty Special was our publicist, Choreography was handled by Duntori (Robin Dunn) and Hot "Diggity" Dog of the "Chubb Rock" click.  Broadway Dance Center in NYC was our rehearsal spot. For bookings, I wasn't signed exclusively to anyone so we had a slew of agencies booking us including ICM, Famous Artists and Pyramid with the Late Bob Cavaniano who had started "LifeBeat", the music industries fight against AIDS.  My dancers at the time were recommended by Eduardo Leon, Julie and Cindy, both from Brooklyn.  We would eventually employ up to 10 different dancers.  For my 1st single I merged with Dose of Fulanito/2 In A Room.  It was called "Do Ya Wanna Dance".  Our hook was inspired by Rod Stewarts "If you think I'm sexy".  We submitted it and Rod Stewart's attorneys gave us the right to use it as long as we would share publishing.  A few weeks later Rod Stewart's camp changed their mind so we went back in the studio and did our own original version.  It was approved and then we got it ready for a worldwide release.  Now, for a name...hmmmmmm.  I had the name ShOcK from the break dancing days. I could keep that and form a team.  I grew up with 2 In A Room in the rough streets of Washington Heights.  We were tight!  Those cats +1 = Brother Makes Three was born.  I didn't realize what was in store from that point on.  I had a feeling it would be great!!
In upcoming issues – RPBC with Eddie Rivera, the days of the new music seminar in NYC, ShOcK at music Gia in Japan, One Life to Live on ABC TV, the video shoot, the album Chillin’ At A Club and much more…..

A RISING STAR~ KATIA NICOLE PDF Print E-mail
Written by everythingeve on Tuesday, 31 August 2010 00:00

Katia Nicole

Katia Nicole is 11 years old and lives in Homestead, Florida. Her parents are Puerto Rican and Colombian decent. She started off as a competitive cheerleader for Comets Allstars and Top Gun All Stars. As she got older she decided to audition for the Miami Heat Jr Jams, and made the team. Quickly thereafter she auditioned and also danced with the Florida Marlin Minnows.

At 9 years old, Katia began dancing at Paramount Dance Studios in Homestead, where the director and founder Ms Lianna Beckno saw her passion and talent and gave her a solo where she competed and won many awards not only as a soloist but a group member as well. When she auditioned the first year at the Miami Heat Jr Jams, in 2007 she did not make the team. She quickly realized that these kids were trained in all styles of dance and she needed to push herself to get to their level. She joined a dance troupe called the Untouchables, that was lead and directed by Glenn Douglas Packard. At the Untouchables she met, Jessica Fernandez, who became her private instructor and mentor. Through her trainings and teachings, Katia quickly learned an aggressive approach to modern and lyrical dancing. When she tried out the following season for the Heat Jr Jams, she made the team and other teams thereafter. At the present time Katia dances at Xtreme Dance studio of Miami. She learns all styles of dancing and has won many awards in different competitions.

Katia is an eager young lady and is determined to become a triple threat. A triple threat is a person who can sing, act and dance. She has recently landed several roles in 6 student university films. She was nominated for Best Actress at the Miami University Film Festival this past year.

She has also appeared on different television programs such as Sabado Gigante (Univision), Aqui Todos Ganan, Showtime and recently landed a role on Burn Notice. Aside from these programs, Katia has earned recognition from different charity events such as American Cancer Society, Susan G Kolman, and many others.

Katia was featured in a couple of music videos from Lil Chuckee and Lil Twist, to Jayquan(a friend and loyal supporter). She’s also done many live performances in and around Miami, but has also performed in NYC and in Philadelphia.

She is now working with different music producers who are helping her obtain her music career. Katia is determined and sets her mind on one day becoming a Disney Chanel Star and will not stop as long as she is supported by her loving family. Katia is also a straight A student, and will now be attending a Magnet Program in Miami, Fl.

Katia, who also goes by the nick name Kat, will touch and inspire many kids. Her motto is always the same “If you believe that you are a star, then it’s just a matter of time until you belong in the sky”.

Here’s my Interview w/ Katia…

What inspires Katia to keep up the hard work and motivation?

Different artists from the Disney Channel, to Nikelodeon, to music entertainers, inspire Katia. But she gets her main inspiration from her mother.

How did Katia get her start?

She got started when she was allowed to perform at a benefit concert for Sandee, one of the original Expose members. There she was led by Scot Haslett, which has worked, alongside her mother to find her vocal trainings.

Is Katia’s mother her manager?

Yes, she is her main manager and works with Scot to help find her venues where she can perform. She is into all different types of music, but loves freestlye because she grew up listening to it because of her mother and also because she loves how they are always talking about being in love.

What does Katia want to be when she grows up?

She would like to be an Entertainment Lawyer in the future, but would not mind also becoming an Entertainer.  She would like to one day sing pop/rock and of course remake some freestyle songs! Her favorite all time musician is Michael Jackson and she also loves Lady Gaga. She is taking lessons in guitar at the moment.

What advice would Katia give to teens that are in the same path?

Her advice to teens that are in the same path is, Trust in God. Put your education first and foremost. Try to find people and places that can enhance your talents and abilities and always believe that you are a star.

I want to thank Annie (Katia’s Mom) and Katia for giving Niteline Magazine this grand opportunity in interviewing such talent. Wishing you the best in Life, may you be blessed with much SUCCESS!
